| Drawing, The Virgin and Child With St. Anne and the Infant St. John Leonardo da Vinci |

| Most if not all of Leonardo's work centered on looking for images underlying the existing physical images. Our research was inspired by and derived from Leonardo's apparent interest and statements. It was our perception of his thought process and his known interest, combined with what we know of the political and religious environment of the time, that led us to look at his works from a previously unexplored perspective ...From outside the box... Leonardo apparently went through great lengths to hide images in several of the most famous . His well known interest in, and use of mirrors led to our use of his "technology" in the study of his works. When mirrors are placed carefully at the left and right of the works at 90 degrees to the edges, the mirrored images combined with the original work brings to light a complex series of additional constructs. Most people who have taken the time to look at the images in detail feel that the constructs are both clearly visible and self-evident. Leonardo's Perpendicular Reverse Mirror Imaging Process Discovered. The Virgin and Child with St. Anne and the Infant St. John, also known as the Burlington House Cartoon is housed at the National Gallery of London, England. The cartoon depicts the mother of Christ holding her son in her lap posed with St. Anne and the Infant St. John. The cartoon possibly the beginnings of a painting never fully executed, commissioned by Louis XII around 1499 - 1500. The apparent anomalies within the cartoon are numerous. The process of finding the images and pictures was gradual and it is through an incremental understanding of Leonardo's theories, the books on light and shade, creation of design and mirror imaging that these discoveries came to light. The National Gallery of London was contacted and inform of the findings . A letter describing the time spent ( 3 years ) and research pursued in studying Leonardo's theories, books on light and shade, the contemplation of his writings and gradual understanding of his thought process was laid out. A detailed description of images within and overlaying each other were noticed: A chalice within a dove with what might be the adult face of Christ within the chalice among other images. Images were noted on both sides of the cartoon using the mirror image process that showed chalice's and angels beautifully formed. The chalice containing a figure praying within it and the Masons Symbol / compass and square are clearly formed. All of the images are clearly discernible in the visible light spectrum without the use of infrared or ultraviolet lights, or any other high tech equipment. An entry from Leonardo's notebook " Let no man that is not a mathematician read the elements of my work " May be Leonardo challenging the reader to pick up his work, read and gain knowledge from his intellectual and insightful studies and writings and then apply that insight to his art. Application of Leonardo's known mirror writing techniques applied to his art have led to the discovery of many hidden images, and images within images. It is the very clever and exciting means by which Leonardo has hidden his yet to be deciphered meaning within his most prized masterpieces. Many of the findings of leonardo's never before seen pictures are so subtle as to by controversial and open to interpretation and disagreement, however many of the findings would appear to be quite self-evident and clearly recognizable by the great majority of those viewing them for the first time. The sheer number of these clearly recognizable symbols makes it appear all but impossible for them to be accidental or coincidental in nature. Leonardo da Vinci states his case both for deliberate creation and hidden meaning within his art, in both his written texts and by his known predilections. " Make your work carry out your purpose and meaning. That is when you draw a figure consider well who it is and what you wish it to be doing" Leonardo da Vinci |
